Early Childhood Educator

In partnership with the Government of Alberta, the Heartland Agency and EvenStart Foundation is opening another childcare centre under the ELCC grant!  We will be opening August 1, 2018 in our newest location at 1227 48thAve NE.

We are currently seeking energetic and dynamic individuals with a passion for working with young children to join our Agency as Childcare Educators. 

Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively within a team environment
  • Plan and facilitate activities that stimulate children’s natural curiosity and support their individual skills and abilities
  • Provide a welcoming and supportive environment to children and families
  • Follow and integrate the core concepts of the Play, Participation and Possibilities Curriculum Framework
  • Work within Licencing and Accreditation regulations, Health and Safety practices and protocols, program goals and Agency philosophy
  • Observe, assess and document program activities as well as children’s individual development and progress
  • Assist with classroom maintenance, material preparation, set up and clean up
  • Assist the children with self-help skills where needed, including toileting and diapering 
  • Be energetic, motivated, caring and supportive

Qualifications and Requirements: 

  • Alberta Child Care Certification level 
  • 1 to 3 years experience working with children ages 19 months to 5 years with a variety of abilities & skills. 
  • Current First Aid certification is required.
  • Current criminal record check (including vulnerable sector check) is required
  • Knowledge of the Play, Participation and Possibilities Curriculum Framework is an asset
  • Awareness of Trauma-Informed Care practices is an asset
  • Experience with children with diverse needs is an asset

Preschool Teacher

The Early Childhood Services (ECS) program is a special education and treatment program serving children between three and five years who come from a variety of at-risk situations, including backgrounds of trauma, abuse, neglect and poverty. We are currently seeking an energetic and dynamic individual to join our program as a Preschool Teacher.

Position Details:

The teacher is directly responsible for the delivery of the children’s programs. She will be able to plan and implement creative, developmentally appropriate programming that meets the unique needs of the children in their classroom. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Planning, preparing and implementing daily lesson plans for the classroom
  • Writing Individual Program Plans (IPPs), and ensuring that they are carried out appropriately and effectively by members of the classroom team (i.e., Educational Assistants)
  • Completing home visits with families to review children’s progress via the IPP, and share strategies to assist in skill carryover between environments
  • Consulting with management, therapy team and classroom team to review, brainstorm and implement strategies
  • Assisting with self-help skills where needed, including toileting and diapering children
  • Ensuring that classroom practices meet with Daycare Licensing, Accreditation, Alberta Education and Health & Safety standards
  • Providing classroom leadership and coaching to ensure team cohesiveness
  • Participating in at least one bussing component throughout the day

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Education degree
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to obtain a Class 4 license
  • Current first aid certification (can be obtained upon hire within a designated time frame)
  • Current criminal record check (including vulnerable sector check)
  • Experience with a special needs population is an asset

Educational Assistant

EvenStart is a special education and treatment program serving children between three and five years who come from a variety of at-risk situations, including backgrounds of trauma, abuse, neglect, and poverty. We are currently seeking energetic and dynamic individuals to join our program as Educational Assistants (EAs) for the preschool programs at our Monterey Park, Signal Hill and Currie Barracks locations.

Position Details:

The EA implements and facilitates daily classroom plans under the supervision and direction of the classroom teacher. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Developing and implementing activities and strategies to address Individual Program Plan (IPP) goals
  • Organizing and preparing daily plans/strategies for children to address their individual needs (e.g., visual schedules, curriculum modifications, sensory strategies, etc.)
  • Assisting children in play activities to address their goals
  • Consulting with the teacher and therapy team to review, brainstorm and implement strategies
  • Assisting with classroom maintenance, material preparation and set-up
  • Assisting with self-help skills where needed, including toileting and diapering children
  • Participating in up to two bussing components throughout the day

Qualifications:

  • Alberta Child Care Certification level (can be obtained upon hire within a designated time frame)
